Hey there SewKids!
Happy Friday! The best part about Friday is planning your weekend and making a run for it when the bell rings!
It has been a busy few months for SewKids!
The launch of our first March Break Sewing Camp was a huge success! And what’s even better? It was all in French! The camp was a big hit with the kids and a great opportunity to “sewcialize” in French.
The 6-9 years old students experienced sewing for the very first time. They were so full of excitement and were eager to “drive” the machines. Despite their excitement, they were very attentive and engaged in their creative work. Children truly are natural born artists. During our practice sessions, they created the most genuine little projects; things an adult may not think to create. But they did…and it was contagious. Before you knew it, they were all making one. One day it was teeny tiny pillows for their dolls another day it was furry fashion bracelets to amp up their style! You can read more about our March Break Camp on our blog.
Another fun project for SewKids! was recently hosting a hand sewing workshop for two classes of 1st-grade students at Saint-René-Goupil. We made adorable Easter eggs out of felt and embellished them with beads. They proudly displayed them in the school corridor before bringing them home for Easter..

The children were really engaged in their work and the teachers were impressed with how zen-like the kids were. Parents have since mentioned that their children are now asking for sewing supplies to continue sewing at home. Testimonials like these bring me joy. Knowing that it has made an impression on them makes it worthwhile. After all, this is the reason I created SewKids! glish.
What's New at SewKids?
Our most recent blog post shares the story of my younger self first being exposed to the world of sewing.
As a young girl at the age of 5, I watched in awe as my mother fabricated the most wonderful outfits. Her creativity and resourcefulness are what influenced me to start sewing. I attribute who I am today as a creative soul to my mother’s influence and my early interest in sewing. It was instrumental in my development into an independent, strong creative thinker who often accomplishes anything she sets her mind on. Learn how it so happened that my journey from making doll clothes led me to become a Fashion Designer and now a passionate teacher of all things sewing – for kids! You can read the blog post here.
What's Even Cooler?

Upcoming Sewing Workshops!
Mother’s Day
In honour of my mother, Sewkids! is offering two special programs next month. We have a top secret Mother’s day gift workshop on May 4th (morning or afternoon session). Our SewKids will spend half a day creating a special gift for Mom. Don’t worry Dad, we have a Father’s day gift workshop for you too! (June 8th). Register here.
For those of you who follow our projects online through our blog or our SewKids! TV Youtube channel, we have a great gift idea that you can make for Mom. Stay tuned for our video tutorial and free downloadable pattern.
Sewing Duos
The second program that was inspired by my Mom is a Parent and Child sewing class. This is a passion project that I have been wanting to do for a while. I truly believe it offers a great opportunity for bonding between parent and child while creating and learning a new skill. I recently received several requests so I think it’s a great time to launch it. The classes are open to either Mom/Dad or grandparent and one child. An additional child may be added for a small fee.
I am excited to offer these classes and looking forward to meeting our parent/child sewing duos. Sign up here.
